July 2017 Updates

Hello, everyone! Can you help us spread the word?

We have great news. Since May, we have solidified our branding, made diddley bows with 15 youth, secured $25,000 in funding, and are better positioned to develop our pilot program! Now, we need to get the word out! If you or your organization has a social media presence or newsletter, then it would be fantastic if you could share with your audience of our progress, and they can learn more on our website https://shiftingrhythms.wixsite.com/shiftbus and facebook page https://www.facebook.com/shiftingrhythms/. Also, feel free to watch and share our 2 minute overview video https://youtu.be/YunNCrvPaNs. Thank you!

Making Diddley Bows

During the end of May, Cecelia, Aditi, Alisha, and Doyung, drove a mini-trailer from Massachusetts to Mississippi so that they could test out a piece of the curriculum in Coahoma County. They worked with 8-10 youth in Sister Kay’s afterschool program in Jonestown who each made their own electric diddley bows. Alisha was worked with Tarra Slack to go to Bobo, and work with 3 youth to also make their own.

Funding

We applied to the Ford College Community Challenge, and received news that we are one of the winners! The Ford Fund will award us $25,000 to support our pilot program. Additionally, we have also been accepted into the Tiny Fellowship! This means our team will have a representative, a fellow, who will receive guidance and mentorship on how to operate and test our pilot, as well as up to $10,000 to test it. We are all incredibly excited about our new progress

Seeking Champions

With our few sources of funding, we are now better positioned to run our pilot. This means that Shifting Rhythms need talented and enthusiastic people in Coahoma County who want to be champions of the program. We are looking for people, so please make suggestions if you have someone in mind.

Thanks so much for staying connected with us!

Your friends,

Shifting Rhythms Team
